The New York Times published an article that caught The College Whisperer's™ eye -- actually, both eyes. Software Seen Giving Grades On Essay Tests.

There are three senses students (and, come to think of it, all of us) need to succeed -- in college, in business and in life!

1. A sense of history. If you don't know and understand where you came from, you'll never have a clue as to where you may be going.

2. A sense of perspective. About the world around you and, of no less import, about yourself.

3. A sense of humor. Take what you do most seriously. Yourself? Not so much. Laugh. It truly is the best medicine!

Oh, they're at it again. Those pesky lists of "Best" colleges in America. This time, as it does every year in the battle to win popularity ratings (as in, "it sells magazines"), Forbes comes out with its List of America's Top Colleges ("Top" simply being a euphamism for "Best," we suppose).

Interesting how this "list" just happened to come out on the very same day the Common App went "live." Hmmm. Design or coincidence? You decide.
