Now, just when you thought it was safe to wade back into the Common App, a few more things admissions officers know but are not saying, via a timely piece in Business Insider, out of the mouth of an admissions officer at Dartmouth College (speaking on the condition of anonymity, to protect the guilt-ridden, no doubt :-).

Among the obvious, the college essay is very important. DUH! And the not so obvious -- race matters; Early Action may be less competitive than Regular Decision; and the middle class gets squeezed -- so what else is new?

Yes, something else to read, ponder and consider (add it too the pile) as deadlines loom large and college applications dance like so many daggers in your dreams.

Still, to be forewarned is to be forearmed!
